Overtake: One finger salute
02/04/12 || BamaHammer
If I have to listen to thrash that was created in the last 10 years or so, I’ll invariably choose the European school over the American school for obvious reasons. The way American thrash bands try to sneak clean, angsty choruses and annoying core elements into their music is a lot like a dirty old man trying to find sneaky ways to make you touch his wiener. It’s wrong and annoying and you just feel defiled afterwords. Overtake does shit the right way. They lay down a relentless train of groovy thrash riffs that aren’t overly fast or brutal and accent it with tasty guitar solos and some pretty death-ish vocals. They’re like a poor man’s version of The Haunted, and that’s not a bad thing at all. There are more than enough memorable riffs to enjoy on this tiny little EP, and the production is also really nice for an independent release. My only real complaints with it are the semi-annoying and overcooked boring riff in “Karma,” and the vocalist tries to sound a little to tough at times. Also, if you have a 5-song EP and one of the tracks is a purposeless instrumental interlude, you may be slightly stupid. Otherwise, this is some pretty decent thrash.
6/10 seems fair enough.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
